This book gives a brief account of the Vedas and Upanishads. This book is appropriate, especially for the beginners and diaspora who have little idea on the basic Hindu philosophy of the Vedas and Upanishads. I have already published three Volumes entitlied: “Hinduism Basics: For Beginners and Diaspora”. Some readers want compact books on certain specific aspects of Hinduism. I have decided to start with the Vedas and Upanishads. India is the Land of the Vedas. Still, today, several Hindu youngsters do not have much knowledge on Vedas and Upanishads. In particular, the Indian diaspora are ignorant about the basic philosophy of their own religion, though, they do visit the Hindu temples often in the land where they have settled down. I am aware that there are a number of books available on the Vedas and Upanishads. But, several of them are scholarly work and written in a style that is difficult to comprehend. The youngsters and students require a book written in simple language to understand the basic concepts of the Vedas and Vedanta. Most of the materials presented in this book are based on the information already available in the literature in the public domain. I have just collected, collated and presented them in a different style; a simple one at that. My own personal opinions and beliefs are kept to the minimum. I want the readers to get to know authentic information. The Upanishads are the last and most important part of the Vedas; and are known as the Vedanta. The Upanishads constitute the very essence of the Vedas. They reveal the knowledge required for all human beings for all times. The philosophy of the Upanishads is lofty and invaluable to the mankind. The Upanishads speak of the status of the Individual Soul and the Supreme Soul; Atma and Paramatma. They form the very foundation of Hinduism. They are imperative for the Sanyasins. The complex Upanishad philosophy is explained through a few Upanishad Stories so that the readers, particularly children, can understand the nuances of Vedanta more clearly. This book will help the diaspora and NRI community who want to know more about Hinduism, Vedas, Upanishads, as well as Indian culture and heritage. In addition to the beginners and diaspora, this book will be useful to the school and college students who want to have a good understanding of the Vedas in simple terms. I hope the youngsters in India and abroad will benefit from this work. Read more
